Hi,

I was charged by a solicitor an exorbitant amount of legal fees without entering into a retainer or a costs agreement. Alot of the work was plainly unnecessary and not directed towards any outcome in my view. I had suggested going through the costs assessment process so a third party could determine if the charges were appropriate but the solicitor has commenced legal proceedings.

Just wondering if the court will do a costs assessment on the amount being claimed as part of the process or if it'll just look at whether I'm liable to pay the total bill, because I really think the costs should be assessed by an independent third party.

Would appreciate any thoughts on this.
