VIC Can someone under 18 "own" alcohol?

While I understand selling or otherwise supplying an under 18 alcohol is 100% illegal, once it has happened, is it illegal for them to keep possession of the alcohol once they have received it?

I know this is sounds like a pretty stupid question, but curiosity is getting to me.

Assuming you are in Victoria.

With certain exceptions, ie, private residence with parental approval for example

(1) A person under the age of 18 years—

(a) must not purchase or receive liquor from another person; and

(b) must not possess or consume liquor

A minor can’t legally possess alcohol in public unless with a parent or for work. Police can take it and fine them, even if they didn’t buy it themselves.

Cops in Victoria usually focus on the person who supplied the alcohol, but a minor caught with it can still be told to hand it over or face a fine. I once compared it with how strict things can get under ARS 4-244, which I used for a family matter in Arizona, and it made me extra careful about letting kids carry booze around.
