Regarding pre-employment criminal checks

Recently, while applying for a university placement, a criminal check was performed.

An AVO was questioned.

  1. If an AVO is a civil matter, how can this show up on a check that elsewhere is saying it shouldn’t?

  2. Can an AVO that is years old be quashed or removed?
University now completed and concerned that this will come up in further job applications.

In NSW, 10 years for spent convictions.

AVO is a civil matter but can be brought by the police and will show up on a bail record.
