My brother was a Gold Coast resident. He told me he had made a new will or had made changes to his original will. If a different solicitor was responsible for the making of a new will or amending the original will how would the solicitor know that my brother had passed away? My understanding is that the second will had different beneficiaries to the first will but do not know which company of solicitors was used if indeed the second will was lodged with a solicitor.

Hi Carol,

Generally the person making the will will inform their executor of the location of their will. However in circumstances where there is dispute about the latest will of a deceased, then the probate procedures is designed to publicly advertise the death of the person and provide notice to anyone who believes they hold a valid later will to come forward.
