A friend received a letter from the ATO to say please explain their last year’s claim. The problem is because they lost all their receipts and paperwork in last year’s floods, they may have used the same information as their last years tax be.

Now they're not sure how to respond to the letter, because it does say in the letter if you feel you may have completed in wrong you can submit again without any penalty.

    Hi Melissa

For key information such as bank interest and employment income, can your friend check online records from their bank(s) and request a re-issue of yearly payment summaries from their employer(s)?
