NSW Advantages and Disadvantages of Separation?

Hi,

My former partner and I have separated amicably a number of years ago. We obtained consent orders at the time for a property settlement. Neither of us are looking at getting a divorce after the separation.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to staying separated but not divorced?

Some that immediately come to mind:

Advantage: You can remarry
Disadvantage: You might decide to remarry.

Advantage: If you get back together no need to remarry
Disadvantage: Wife may be entitled to assets if you die
