Hi @Toqual
Sitting in the gallery and taking notes on a notepad is common.
Agreed.
This happens every day.
Students do it all the time, as do journalists,
and even the occasional solicitor (I personally learn a LOT from watching others at work!).

Dress for business, not a nightclub.
Keep your technology off (not on silent, off), and your mouth shut.
Remember to bow to the Judge or Magistrate upon entry and exit,
and you should have little or no problem.

Courts are open to the public with the exception of children's court.
Never hurts to make yourself known to the court officer especially if you are seen taking notes.

Manners...discrete clothing...have seem some terrifying sights
No recording devices
Phone off.
No heckling.
No stage whispers to the rest of the gallery
Never, ever address or worse speak over the a magistrate. Lawyers are there for a reason.
