I work on a farm that is busy getting sold. We have been told that we will get a redundancy package only if we stick it out until the sale goes through all the legal avenues (1-4 months). But we will receive nothing if we leave for other jobs before. Is this correct?

Hi Rory,

You would need to get advice about your specific circumstances. Start with the Fair Work Ombudsman (www.fairwork.gov.au).

However, there have been court cases that have held that even where notice of redundancy is given, if a person resigns and leaves within the notice period, they lose the entitlement to redundancy.
