Hi,
Recently, my unaccompanied baggage (personal effects) arrived from overseas on 28th February 2025. On Monday the 3rd March, The ABF asked me to get it cleared through licensed customs broker.
After searching for such broker on Wednesday the 5th March, the customs clearance claim was lodged. Please note that as a private traveller, I had no idea about this process. Hence took me 2 days to finalize customs broker.
Due to probably Cyclone Alfred incoming, the Quarantine department did not do any inspection on Thursday and Friday. Please note that cyclone was not in Brisbane till 7th March evening.
Now, I have to pay extra charges to freight handler. Also, due to so much rain, highly likely that baggage would survive.
Inspection scheduled on 11th March.
Should the Department of Quarantine be asked for compensation?
