Hey, just a quick question:

Got a car from the Holden dealership about 6 months ago and I only got a 3-month warranty on it.

I have had 2 problems with the car since I got it but now the actual automatic gear motor has died and the car just will not start. The car is only 4 years old, so this should not be happening.

What are my options under Australian Consumer Law?

Hi Matthew,

Under Australian Consumer Law the dealer has a requirement to ensure the vehicle last for a reasonable time and that is independent of warranties. So the question is "is it reasonable to expect that a 4 year old car would suffer a major defect within 6 months of purchase".

No its really not.

The following blog will give you a better understanding of how consumer law can be applied and what to do. https://www.lawanswers.com.au/blog/lemon-car-what-you-can-do-under-australian-consumer-law/
