This ones for fun and I'm hoping someone can settle a poorly worded bet between friends 🤣 What is the legal definition of 'unable'?

The bet was regarding whether "we will be unable to camp as a group in September" or not.

Person A says that Person B had to bend the COVID rules in order to go camping so Person B lost the bet as they believe they weren't all technically able to go on the trip. The premise of Person A making the bet was that he believed there would be some sort of restrictions in place in September which would forbid at least one person from being able to go on the trip.

Person B says that everyone went camping so they were able to go and won the bet. They also believe they followed the COVID conditions which is a separate matter.

-----

As mentioned above, establishing whether a COVID condition was actually broken is another matter. It was a transport operator that drives through hotspots and then fills out a border pass when returning home to QLD. The completed border pass has the following conditions upon returning home to QLD:

A person entering Queensland and who is not required to quarantine under a Specialist exemption must:

a) ......
b) ......
c) minimise contact with the community for a period of 14 days; and
d) to the extent reasonably practicable, practise physical distancing including by remaining at least 1.5 metres from other people; and
e) .....
f) .....
.....
Would going camping in isolation fulfill these requirements? Or would you say they were unable to go on the trip?

My thoughts .... Be vigilant in your dealings with person B 😃

So given that the premise of the bet was around Covid restrictions & subsequent ability to all attend camping, you would think that person A has won the bet, HOWEVER, I believe person B has discovered a loophole created by the ambiguity around the word able ...

Basically, in light of person B's position as a transport operator, in spite of Covid restrictions, he was non the less able (as in had the authority & power given him under the restrictions) to attend camping... So I believe person B has won the bet

would it pass the pub test though ... Hmmm
