Even if you catch the guy on CCTV doing it that doesn't mean Police will be able to identify the person.
To you, and other victims, crimes like this are extremely serious and the Police door knocking entire suburbs etc might seem like a reasonable use of resources however GDs are busy. They're not generally handing out petty traffic fines. GDs will prioritise their work and the multitude of case files they have and something that they have so little to go on will not be prioritised especially since it does not involve a threat to your safety. They'll investigate it, but don't get too excited.
