Hi and thank you for allowing me to ask this question.

A family member was out with a friend having drinks. They have then gone to catch a taxi, a passerby has overheard them arguing about paying for the cab and has very generously offered to pay for their taxi. He has also mention that he has been paid and is carrying several thousands of dollars.

This triggers something in the friend and he starts attacking the guy with intent to rob him. The family member has no idea that this was about to happen and tries to stop the friend. The offender grabs the bag and drops some money on the ground while fleeing.

Family member not thinking, grabs the money on the ground and runs away. A few days later they both hand themselves in to the police. The money was not returned as the main attacker has hidden it, family member has no idea where the money is and has been held in watch house for a week. This happened in the Northern Territory what charges could the family member be facing.

This is his first offence. He doesn't reside in NT lives in another state was just working in the area.

What can the family member be charged with?

Like your title, assault and robbery. If a weapon was used, armed robbery. Perhaps other charges if other facts emerge.
