When buying a car second hand privately last week I inquired if the Timing Belt had been changed and the answer was yes at 80K, I have since reviewed the service history and in the log book it has a hand written note under the 75K service that it was changed, but the 75K service was stamped by the dealer as that service was performed by a dealership. I have contacted the dealership and the belt was not done in that service. After looking further the previous owner had completed his own oil changes and wrote them in the log book and signed it but the hand writing matches that of the Timing Belt entry suggesting that it was falsely entered.
Do i have a case to peruse the $800 it is going to cost to have this service performed?

Thank you in advance
