I received a traffic infringement in the mail which included a fine but stated "no points deducted" . I paid the fine and two weeks later received a letter stating that 2 points has been deducted. After numerous phone calls and letters i finally received an admission that the ticket had errors but there is nothing that can be done. Is this right? I assumed that an error like that would make the ticket void

Ok, so you did something wrong. Speeding? Police officer did a minor oopsy, failed to tick a box. Which is worse?
So nope, you're wrong to 'assume' that error would make the ticket void. WHY? well police officers's oopsy doesn't change the fact that you did the crime...

In any case they could just re-issue a new ticket with no errors, an invalid ticket does not negate the offence.
