We have recently received a fencing notice from our neighbour. It was placed in our letterbox, no postage stamp, addressed to a very mispelt version of our surname (first 4 letters correct, last 4 incorrect). The notice also uses the mispelt version if our name. We have had numerous email communications regarding our fence, which have all been signed off by us with our full name. The Dividing Fences Act states that a valid fencing notice is to be served personally or by post, to the owners of the property. The notice does not indicate the name of the proposed fencing contractor, only a description of the work with an estimated cost. Have we been served with an adequate fencing notice under the Dividing Fences Act?

Probably yes.

Unless you agree, this is only part of what happens. They need to apply for an order to proceed if you do not agree.
