Careless Driving Charge - Diversion?

I was in a traffic accident where I hit a road sign and destroyed a private property garden. I was likely speeding and the cops are investigating into it. The cops said I would likely be able to do a diversion program for careless driving. I'm wondering if I should/can wait to see if the cops have reasonable suspicion or if I need to do a diversion plea before they have the evidence to prove me guilty (if they can). I'm 19 years old which means I must goto court if I get charged. I have no previous offenses. I plan on calling the cops about it tomorrow but wanted some more information. Thanks

Take the diversion if offered unless you have a lawful reason for your driving.
