Hi, this morning I was at the shopping centre and was about to reverse out of the car park I was in. I check around and don't see anyone so I started to reverse. As I did, I heard a horn but when I looked again I couldn't see anyone, (I was running late for work so I wasn't as focused as I should have been), then I hit this lady's rear right hand door. Not major damage but the door will probably be replaced.

I've been told by a few people that, 'because it's in a car park at the shops you don't have to pay.' One of the people who told me that said his girlfriend used that excuse and didn't have to pay. I checked with my car insurance and they don't think that's right so I wanted another opinion.

Thank you

Who's at fault, gives way? And if the other vehicle gets hit so far back, did they not see the reversing car or its lights, or chose to ignore?
