Hello,
Posting my first query to the experts here, please help.

How long after separation can I buy a property? There was no property at the time of separation and both partners were on full-time jobs. The separation matter is going on (mediation stage) and the child-care agreement is being worked upon.

-Can the other partner claim the property when it has been solely bought from my own money, after separation?
-Do I need to wait until divorce settlement (or longer) to buy a home
-What would be the best option as the settlement may take a few months to a year or so?

Sincere thanks and regards.

Until you have a property settlement, or it has been more than 12 months since a divorce, there is a risk the property will become part of the marital pool.

I'd settle property matters first with the ex, sooner rather than later, so you can move on with life free and clear of claims.
