I engaged with a recruitment company to hire a new team member. The recruiter stated in text and email how much they would charge me for the hire. They sent me an invoice for a higher amount and so I didn’t pay it. I requested multiple times for the invoice to be reissued and it wasn’t. They are now taking me to small claims court for it.

Further to complicate things, the team member I hired left after a week. The recruiter was misleading and indicated that they would be able to replace them promptly and weren’t able to. Per the contract I still need to pay however I do feel misled in their statements that they would find a replacement. Do I have a case?

I would love a lawyers support in reviewing my defence document. How much will this cost me? I am feeling very rattled by this whole experience and very nervous for my upcoming court date.
