Recently a Micronesian island was 'raffled' off via the selling of a number of photos from the island. When purchasing a photo, the customer received a free ticket in the raffle to win the island. The photos appear that they would sell at face value of the price.

Is this process legal in Australia Law?.

What part of the transaction took place in Australia?
If it's lawful to sell land that way in FSM, then what do think would be the problem?

Thanks for your reply Tim. I'm not concerned if it was legal in Micronesia, I'm curious if this could happen in Queensland or Australia. The method they used was to sell photos with free tickets into a raffle to win the island resort. Customers receive photos, one person receives the Island.

As long as the relevant laws are complied with, there is nothing stopping this in Australia. Some charities raffle homes.

A house as a prize in a game of chance (or of skill) is not unheard of.
Many charities have done it over the years.
Bunch of years ago, Radio 2MMM in Sydney did it in a competition.

Given the publicity this scale of game often attracts,
you can be fairly certain that it would quite some scrutiny
from the relevant regulator in each state.
