Would You Rebuild or Replace a Failed 2.0 Turbo Engine?

If a turbocharged performance engine develops bearing knock or starts consuming a lot of oil, is a full rebuild still worthwhile or would you rather install a new long engine? I'm particularly curious about experiences with Hyundai's G4KH 2.0 turbo and whether replacement proved more reliable for cars that are driven hard.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to add my two cents. For a hard-driven G4KH, a full rebuild with upgraded bearings and oil pump is often more reliable than a stock replacement. Are you leaning toward a short block or just a fresh long block? It really comes down to what kind of power and abuse you plan on throwing at it.

For bearing knock on a hard-driven G4KH, I’d replace it rather than rebuild. Rebuilds often leave hidden weak points, and a new long block with upgraded internals is more reliable.
