If my husband dies, will I be responsible for his debts in his name only, e.g. credit card debt?

I don't think his estate would cover the cost of the debt, so what happens? Will they be transferred to me as his wife?

Thanks

If it’s a joint account, you will be equally liable to pay the outstanding balance. If the credit card debt is only in the name of your deceased husband, the liability will be paid out of his estate. If there’s not enough money, the bank may offer you a payment plan or write the debt off.
