Hi everyone,

I have seen some ute and truck drivers slightly open their driver's door while reverse parking, to stick their head out and see behind the vehicle better. But is this legal under traffic law?

Depends on where they are.

If they are on an area where the road rules apply, such as a public road or a public carpark, then it's illegal. (You can only legally protude an arm from a vehicle for the purpose of giving a hand signal.)

In general, the road rules don't apply to places such as loading docks or private roadways that are not open to the public.
