I have just moved to a new place and my driveway is in the middle of the intersection. There are traffic lights for the street directly across from my drive way and for the traffic on the main road coming to my left and right. There is no light facing my driveway.

My question is, if the light is red for the traffic on the main road, can I turn left onto the street under traffic law? And am I allowed to go straight across the intersection from the smaller street across the intersection.

I drew up what I mean in this image.

Hmm, interesting example. I'm thinking, but not 100% sure, that you can turn left at any time it is clear. You have no lights controlling your access.

Ability to turn right or go straight ahead is probably the same.

Line markings (eg single or double unbroken lines) don't normally cross intersections.

You can always ask at the local cop shop and see what they say!
