Small repair required at the property. Owner lives over east and hires someone from "Airtasker" (you post a job, anyone can bid for it). This guy does not work for a company, he doesn't an offer ID, he looks "rough" not even like a tradie, and the property owner most likely doesn't even know him.

I asked the agency about this "unknown" person and my protection in my own home, prior to his arrival; they said the owner can send anyone he likes to do repairs, and I guess they are right.

Question is; where is the tenant's protection or property rights in this case?

The owner is partly responsible for the behaviour of his agent. The tradie is fully responsible for any damage/loss he causes.
