A friend of mine who died had a superannuation fund and a life insurance, her two sons are named as beneficiaries on the papers. Can her husband from whom she was separated, living under same roof, access these accounts and withdraw money? That is what he is trying to do.
How can the sons be represented in Australia? Authorisation?

Was there a will?
If so, who is the executor of the estate?

Different rules apply depending on whether or not there was a valid will.

If there is no will then it will be dealt with as an intestacy.
There's a statutory formula involved.
You can read about it here.
