NSW Superannuation - Are Parents Entitled to Benefit?

Hi,

Could anyone offer their knowledge on death insurance with superannuation that he had? My 26-year-old son passed on 4Sept2016. No will. I have sent paperwork to First State Super.

My question is, are parents ever entitled to the benefit? I know he only had about $1400 in account as it was a new job. I sent in a copy of his naming me as next of kin plus a centre authority to act on his behalf.

I stated that he was financially dependant on us when he needed.

I am not sure anyone here can really answer that. You probably need to wait until you get an answer from the super fund.
