VIC Statute of Limitations for Assault by Parent Against a Child?

Hello all,

I am wondering if there is a statute of limitation for Unlawful Assault by a parent against their child, and if so, what the statute of limitations would be.

I have been searching for this but have been unable to find anything concrete on it. But when I reported the incident earlier today, I was told by the police officer that they will not investigate the "petty assault" because it was more then 12 month's ago.

Summary offences ie unlawful assault have 12 month limitation. Crimes Act charges ie Cause Injury have no limitation.
