I did however emailed them that I am getting a quote from a repairer. Is it enough as evidence that I admit fault?
If I was the insurer's lawyer, then I'd be arguing that it was.
I'd be saying something like

"The respondent's actions in getting quotes infers a belief,
even a knowledge on their part, of their ultimately being at fault,
and therefore liable for the cost of repairs."
