QLD Property Law - Allowed to Install Backdeck Close to Fence Boundary?

Hi,

I am planning to renew my backdeck and with it, its staircase, as those haven't been compliant. I live in a townhouse which is built with boundary from my neighbuors on both sides and so is the original deck (<1m above ground).

Under property law, do I need to obey any side boundary setbacks when I install the new stairs or can they be close to the side boundaries provided they are hidden from the fence line of my neighbor?
