    Hi,

I am planning to renew my backdeck and with it, its staircase, as those haven't been compliant. I live in a townhouse which is built with boundary from my neighbuors on both sides and so is the original deck (<1m above ground).

Under property law, do I need to obey any side boundary setbacks when I install the new stairs or can they be close to the side boundaries provided they are hidden from the fence line of my neighbor?

    Thanks

    Hi Sharkbait,

The Qld Development Code - Design and Siting Standard sets out where dwellings and associated structures can be situated on a property in relation to boundaries.
You can access it here: Rules for boundary setback | Brisbane City Council
