hello everyone,
Last year, on 4/3/2023, I obtained 6 demerit points (double) for failing to stop at the red light and paid a fine while driving using my foreign driver's license. This year on 17/04/2024, I got a WA driver's license and was PROVISIONAL till 25/4/2024. however, after obtaining my WA license, i was served with disqualification notice for the offence committed last year when i was driving on foreign license. My doubt here is, since i got the WA license after the offence, could they disqualify my license under excessive demerit points for WA provisional license? Your valuable insight could be helpful to me here as my license is getting disqualified for three months.

Thank you

did you end up getting any clear info from the Department of Transport or a lawyer about how your old overseas charges affected your WA licence? I’m in a similar situation and wondering if past offences overseas can suddenly come up during renewal or if they stay separate. Would be great to know how it worked out for you.

I had a similar issue a while back, and what helped me was checking info on a news portal called pedir ayudas, which had a straightforward breakdown of how licence points and penalties carry over between countries. It’s worth looking into whether your overseas demerit points affect your standing in WA, especially since systems aren’t always connected unless serious offences are involved.
