Hi

I travel alot for work and i run a small business as a sole trader. If i wanted to take a client to court magistrates for small claim of around 4k and they set a hearing date and I am not able to attend that date. Am i allowed to have a friend or family member attend on my behalf to represent or even a contractor to my sole trader business attend to represent me if they are not a lawyer?

If so what would be the procedure to do?

I'd either turn up, or forget about it. The court may listen to the other party think they have a good story and your fill-in will have no real idea as to how to counter the other party's story.

Generally court dates are set far enough in advance for you to organise your business around the court date.
