Hi All,

Got myself a speeding ticket when I was down in SA for work. I was doing 25 km/hr over. In South Australia doing 20-29 over incurs 5 demerit points, whereas in NSW it incurs 4. I rang RMS here in NSW and twice they said that NSW rules apply. However they would not send that to me in writing when I asked. It’s particularly important because I only have 5 points left on my licence which means if SA rules apply I lose it. Received the fine in the mail and it doesn’t show how many demerit points apply.

Can I trust their word over the phone on this?

Cheers

Seem to recall that the fine (amount) is imposed according to what is set by the state that the offense was committed in, but demerit points are administered by the license issuing state. In that case NSW DP would apply.... The points won't be applied until the fine is paid, backdated to the date of offense I believe

Ring RMS (NSW) and ask?
