I inherited half of my father's share in a house. He co owned with his wife. He owned half and she the other half. My sister and I got his half, so essentially I own one quarter of the property.
The widow is now claiming she wants me and my sister to pay a third each for the rates, even though she is the one living there. We obviously can't take our names off the rates as we are part owners, so can we ask her to pay part rent for our portion of the house?
In the will my father stated to delay the sale of his interest in the property in which his wife wishes to reside there.
Its been a year and we thought we had an understanding, and our solicitor at the time said shes liable for the rates, now she's wanting us to pay.
Any advice would be helpful.
