VIC Indian giver wants to have money returned

my mother in law paid out part of our mortgage and we paid the rest. She now wants her money back after 5 years and after constantly stating that she wishes we keep it. What are our rights if we sell?

Depends on the original agreement struck when the money was paid. She'd need some evidence the money was a loan.

Without evidence she will be hard pressed to claim the money was a loan and not a gift to her son.

Keep in mind she may now have money issues of her own and be struggling financially.
