Hoping to get some clarification and/or advice please on the following situation.

I had a client that placed a deposit on a wedding cake in 2016. The wedding was for 2017.
We meet with the client again in 2017 to discuss design, flavors etc.
Sent client sketches - no reply
The client would then email a couple of weeks later advising they were waiting on the quote & sketches.
She kept claiming she never received anything.
I then managed to get her to answer her phone 2 weeks before her wedding which is when I was advised that she was going to another decorator.
Now fast forward to 2018 she wants her deposit back.
I have offered a store credit for 50% of the deposit as we did meet and do sketches for custom design etc.
The customer is not happy and demanding full deposit back.

Where do we stand legally, please?

What is the purpose of the deposit? Is your deposit arrangement clearly explained in your terms and conditions?

If not, then might be better off to pay back the full deposit and then re-examine your terms and conditions for future.
