After 6 years, my ex-husband has decided he wants to change the days he has the children. He has organised a private mediator who rang me today and said I have to comply within two weeks or he hands him a letter to say I disagreed. He then said I have to pay half of the costs for mediation, which is very costly to me as a single mother of three.

Can I go to centacare and organise a cheaper mediator ? Do I have to pay half of the cost of a private mediator when he has instigated it under Family Law?

Many thanks

Alison,

You have a right to attend another mediation centre of your choice. Try Relationship Australia - they base their charges on what you earn.
They will send a letter out to your ex husband and then you both attend different sessions prior to having a mediation session.
