We hired a contractor to do pool surrounds for us and paid him ( foolishly) 50% of the anticipated cost of the job.

He performed around 5% of the work and then vanished , never to be seen again.

$2700.00 was paid to him and he probably did about $500.00 worth

I see that he has a facebook page but he has not ever contacted me back regarding any repayment

Am I within my rights to name and shame him?

How can I retrieve those monies?

Are they licenced? Try finding them first to see if they have building licence via the QBCC website (www.qbcc.qld.gov.au).

Once you've found them, you'll likely have to take them to QCAT to enforce your contract (www.qcat.qld.gov.au).
