I cancelled my car insurance by telephone and took up insurance with another company. I have since discovered that the debit order did not stop. I have been paying double insurance for 3 years. I did have a claim, which I obviously claimed through the new company as to my knowledge the other policy was cancelled.

Can I claim back my 3 years of premiums that have been debited to my account? I cannot find any paperwork that confirms my cancellation. I do have proof of cover for the same vehicle with another insurer.

Unless you can convince the first insurer that you cancelled it, I don’t like your chances - especially since you’ve gone through up to three insurance renewals without saying anything.

I have had trouble with this s**t as well... and the only reason I found out was because my account did not happen to have enough money in it and suddenly the insurance company is sending me notices and I am like, what the hell is this?

They actually count on people to forget, it's their strategy

Never set up any kind of automated payment with an insurance company, that is the lesson I learned.

I think you would find that extremely difficult for the fact that both insurances would have different covers. They are both different organisations who have still been liable in compensating u if something was to go wrong. Did they send you notices after each year for rolling on your insurance or price changes in your policy?

Oh there wont be any notices, you can count on that - Like i said in earlier post, they dont want you to remember.
I did not receive any notices at all either until *after* they could not sneakily withdraw the funds because i happened to not have enough money in the account. Then after that happened all of a sudden i started receiving notices in the mail about the insurance not being paid, and that is how i found out.

Yes i know what your saying but if the prices have changed or increased u may be able to claim back the increase of the insurance payments if you were not alerted or notified of the higher rate you may have been charged.

Unlikely, they will have clauses saying they may change the rates without notice. This is an insurance company after all, they know how to wield fine print!!

Yes of corse i suppose it would depend on the insurer. I however was alerted by email on 2 occasions of price fluctuations. But as you said they can twist and manipulate a situation to a fine art. Mayb you might have some knowlege about my question plzz check out my situation and let me know what you think. Cheers clancy
