NSW Illegal to Sell Android Boxes to Stream Online?

Just wondering, is it illegal under criminal law to sell android boxes that let you steam movies from online? Not download.

Possibly. How do the movies get onto the android box if they only stream out content?

Do the box suppliers have legal title to the streaming movies?

It has an application called kodi build into it. Where there are add-ons that let you stream the content. You never own it as you only stream it and don't download it. I think it's a grey area but I do know that there is websites in Australia selling them.

I've asked them what's the legal aspect of selling the boxes and the way they described it was “if you sell a laptop with google is that illegal?" This is the same thing as you can download if you really wanted to on the box the add-ons are just for streaming.

The hardware will not be the issue. Kodi itself seems OK.

Issue will be around some other 3rd party add-ons the suppliers might throw in as a bundle. You'd need to trust your supplier is doing the right thing because if any 3rd party add ons do illegal downloads then you may have issues.

But is it the user is only streaming, so is it not the person who owns the add-on that's breaking the law?

Getting too detailed for me. Main thing is you don't sell boxes with illegal content, and of course the box needs to pass Australian electrical standards.
