Can the mother of an unborn child write the father's name on the birth certificate without his consent?

It is ordinarily a requirement that both parties sign a Birth Registration Form when registering the birth of a child. If one party refuses to sign, the other must provide a letter explaining why they have not signed. In some circumstances, however, the father can be entered on to the birth certificate without signing the form. You should contact the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry for more information about this.
