Australian residents or citizens may be prosecuted under the War Crimes Act 1945 (Cth) for acts classified as 'serious crimes' in so far as they were committed in a war - insofar as it occurred in Europe in the period beginning on 1 September 1939 and ending on 8 May 1945.
