I have just received in the post a shocker of a speeding fine and demerit loss.

I have been issued a fine of $800 and lost 12 demerits (6x2). I am being accused of 101kmph on a 70kmph zone. I know this looks really bad, but I was travelling with my wife and kids so I don’t know how I got so far over without one of them pointing it out to me.

This was on the Bussell Highway returning to Perth on the Australia Day weekend. It was caught on a roadside mobile speed camera ute.

This seems to be an abnormally fast speed from what I can remember, but all I would like to know is there any way to reduce or take an alternative punishment that will allow me to keep some demerits and/or reduce the fine.

I am lucky that I hold a clean licence, but I am terrified now that I cannot have any sort of lapse or slip up in the next 3 years.

Any help or advice will be graciously received.

The short answer is no.

Purposefully or not, you broke the law and have to suffer the consequences.

Good luck for the next 3 year period.
