Hi everyone, new here -

Would love to know some reasons as to why a lawyer would all of a sudden file a notice of cease to act in a family law matter?

I’ve googled it - but not really getting any answers.

Thanks so much !

Refusal to take advice
Loss of confidence that the client will take advice
Ill faith (that is, doing something out of spite, or malice, or as a power gesture)
Pursuing a matter where there is no merit to it (this is, only because "it's the principle of the thing")
Wanting an outcome that isn't available at law
Cross-checking the lawyer's advice with lay people/ family/ relatives/ other lawyers

Also, you may care to read this.

In any event, yes, you still have to pay the lawyer
for the work that they've done up that point.

Thanks 😊

Even with legal aid - will said person have to pay any costs?

Thank you!

Whats kind of instructions?

My former partner’s solicitor has just randomly ceased to act, 13 days before our next court date.

It will not be random, it will be for some reason you are not privy to, nor entitled to know.

So if my solicitor finds out - then she tells me, is that a breech of some sort?

Also, I can probably just ask him and he will give me the answer as to why lol.

Why the other party's lawyer
ceased to act for them
is basically none of your* business.

No. The nature of the client-lawyer relationship on one side of a matter,
including any variation to or cessation of that relationship,
is not something the other side has any automatic entitlement to know anything about.
