Medical Tests results

Hi,
my husband had an MRI test (which he paid for) and received the film (on a disk). But he also asked to be given the report for the MRI and he's been told that the report is only going to be sent to the referring doctor and that he doesn't have the right to receive a copy. Is that accurate? Does a patient have the right to receive this report from the testing laboratory or not? He might want to go for a second opinion to a different doctor and a full report would be really helpful. From my point of view, it is not different than any other service or product you paid for so should be entitled to receive what you 'purchased'.

The important thing is that he has a copy of the MRI on disk.... The report is usually just a summary of observations anyway.... up to the Dr to have a look as well & then advise whether to refer to a specialist or not, (who would also look at the film, not just rely on the report) ... It's standard practice for reports to be sent to the referring Dr only.

He might want to go for a second opinion to a different doctor and a full report would be really helpful.

He can still take the disk for a second opinion without a report ..... I had some imaging results years ago on disk & did just that.
