How do I start a real estate career focused on the Black Hills region?

I'm thinking about switching careers and real estate has always caught my eye, but I really want to plant roots in the Black Hills area. I grew up hiking those trails, so I know the region, but I have zero clue how to actually get started as an agent out here in 2026. Should I go for a license first or try to find a broker to shadow? Anyone got tips for breaking into it locally, good training programs, stuff I should watch out for? I’d love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for others in small towns like mine!
