My commercial law notes say,

"It is impracticable to print a marine policy to provide for every risk and every contingency. So the practice is to amend the basic policy. If so, the printed word is over-ridden by impressed wording and that both printed and impressed are over-ridden by handwriting"

What is meant by "Impressed" in the above statement?

Hi Darrelj,

It doesn't appear to have anything to do with "Impressment" which is a power that is vested in an officer of the defence forces to compulsorily acquire property. That one might be a question for your lecturer. I've never come across it in commercial law.
