Hi guys, in a Federal Court case, at what stage are costs likely to be ordered?
Does it need to go to trial with an outcome, or can they be awarded at a directions hearing?
Thanks!

Hi @mtee
I assume that you are referring to an award of costs - in contrast to say, "security for costs".
If yes, as a general rule, costs follow the "event" (that is, the conclusion of proceeding).
The Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) sets out a summary of Costs Orders in ALRC Report 115.

Hope this helps.
